Welcome!
Birth support in Richmond
My name is Alexis and I am a doula serving the Richmond, Virginia community as a labor assistant and childbirth educator. Richmond has a wonderfully rich birth community, and I am pleased and honored to be a member of the network of doulas here.
Philosophy
As a doula, I believe that all mothers deserve the birth experience they want, to be safe, supported, and loved during the birthing process, and to have their birth treated as a unique, sacred event. I also believe that all babies deserve to be welcomed into the world as peacefully as possible. My job as a doula is to be your birth support: to provide comfort measures during labor, relief for your partner (if you have one in the delivery room), and reminders of the choices you had hoped to make. (I will never speak for you or make decisions for you, and I will continue to support you regardless of whether you wish to make decisions that stray from the "plan.") I also believe that mothers and families deserve to be educated on their options, and empowered to make informed decisions throughout the childbearing experience, and I strive to help families achieve this.
Types of support available
I have been toLabor trained as a professional doula. I have additional training in childbirth education, and offer private or group classes in your home or mine. I provide prenatal and labor support, in helping you prepare for the birth of your baby and offer comfort during labor. I am also able to provide postpartum support in your Richmond area home, including breastfeeding support and light housekeeping duties (laundry, dishes, vacuuming, some cooking), within a 60 minute drive from King William county.
Please contact me if you have any questions. Email is the very easiest way to get in contact with me, but you can contact me through any of the other means listed here. If you are interested in having a doula and I am not available for your due date, I will be happy to help you find a doula in Richmond who can meet your needs. I am also able to help you connect to other childbirth education classes, postpartum doulas, or other qualified pregnancy, birth, and postpartum support people.
Mother Ducker Birth Support is located in King William, Virginia (23009), and serves the surrounding metro-Richmond area, approximately 60 miles in any direction. I will happily serve families at any of the Richmond area hospitals, as well as at home births. For more information, email me at motherduckerdoula at gmail dot com or call me at (804) 723-1223. The name "Mother Ducker" comes from my long-time, slightly silly collection of rubber ducks.
